Do you agree that accidents would be much more devestating then those of today?

As a pilot and a car driver the thought of being surrounded in the air by some of the incompetents one gets on the road today would make me go back to the bicycle, I think!

But seriously, the cost of a flying car (several have been successfully flown, by the way), would put them out of the reach of most people. There would also have to be a system of licences, flying tests, medical examinations, airworthiness checks, etc.. Too bureaucratic.

So I don't think the subject of your very interesting question would ever actually come to pass. As far as accidents go - when an aircraft of any type hits the ground in an uncontrolled way (i.e., has an accident), survival tends to be less than one would like. At least if the engine stops in a car you can usually pull over. Not so easy over a town in a flying car when that engine stops!

Incidentally, imagine dozens of flying vehicles trying to land at the local supermarket on a Friday evening!

I agree. It would also suck! While driving home from last call I would have to worry not only staying between the lines but keeping the right elevation.

With the problems we have now with the road 2 dimensional, being in the air and having a 3 dimensional lane would be 100x worse. Also there would need to be hovering lines and signs that did not move even during extreme weather. There is alot more to consider other than your floating car to make it safe.

i think it will be increase... though it may be called an air jam instead of traffic jam :) . 'bout the accident. let me put it this way, a flying car broke down at 50 meters above ground with bring chaos to the 40 meters highway, 30 meters, 20 meters, ... (assuming that the flight track for each 10 meters high).

Traffic problems would decrease.
If a flying car was ever invented and mass produced it would have to be controlled by an automatic system.
Therefore, there would be virtually no problems.

Excellent question...accidents would definitely increase. You would have to many blind spots then. People falling out of the sky and pieces of their cars hitting people on the ground. Not a good thing at all.

I think it would increase the likelihood of accidents in the sky and on the way down.. nothing worse than getting hit from above...

Increase. Mainly because of all the debris from the flying car wrecks strewn about...

They have invented a flying car. They are just not feasible for mass usage, or public budgets

But how much fun would be drunk driving then? -)))

Actually, if they invent flying cars, they would need to put a mandatory auto pilot in them. Otherwise, people would be flying into your home regularly.

both, but it will never be as wide-spread as they are claiming it will be because the FAA will step in.In this case however,it would be a good thing as it might prevent the number of people who think they can fly, when they really cant, from flying, which in turn, could save a lot of people's lives.
