Yes. I felt better then. I thought I was going to travel a lot more, but now I can't visit the places I'd like to go. It's sad.

I don't think anyone felt safer... I think that they were just oblivious to the possibility of it. I mean who feels "safe" in NYC? I never did. "Safe" is not a good word.
Remember... there was another explosion in the parking garage years before Sept. 11th and people died then too. They tried to attack from below first, but when it didn't work. The Gov, in all honesty should have seen a sky attack coming next...
People in NYC are and always have been tough... BECAUSE "Safe." never was a feeling anyone had there. From Subway pushers, to drug deals gone bad, gang violence, serial rapists, to just the afternoon traffic... Terrorism is just one more thing to consider at this point.
Wars have been since the beginning of time and I don't think that anyone ever felt "Safe." like I said, just oblivious to the way these people think and live that enables them to completely disreguard the quality of human life to be ABLE to do what they do.
How can you say the world was ever a "Better" place? Remove your rose colored glasses hon... and take a look around. History is full of the kinds of people that were bloodthirsty in the name of religion and territory.
Kahn, Hitler, Mussolini, Russa, Castro, Drug Cartells,
Kadaffy, Hussein, All of the infamous names in history.
Nothing new... Just the faces attached to an age old hatred started when the crusades massacred people for their religious and social beliefs. It happened then and it still happens today.
Men are the reason! I say we all sever a breast and reorganize the world as Amazons! LOL...

I certainly felt safer before the attacks on September 11th. And perhaps there was less violence then. But at the same time, the US didn't seem to be very aware of the things that could happen. So I think we, as a country, were less safe because we were less aware of the dangers. And when we start relaxing too much, I think we will be far less safe than we are now.

No, the terrorists have been at it ad nauseum. After the colonial period in India when Pakistan became a nation, there were lots of atrocities committed by both Hindus and Moslems.
The Middle East is and has always been a basket case in all times not under the control of a foreign power like the Roman Empire.
Those who look at things in a simple pre/post 911 viewpoint are simply ignoring a brutal and chaotic history that spans all recorded history.
I cringe at the abominable stupidity of those who think that we are suddenly at greater risk since 911 or the war in Iraq. Islamic fundamentalists are at war with every other culture on earth. It is best we deal with them there and on their own terms. They feel like we aren't to be allowed to exist, we should return their sentiments and exterminate them. This is a clash of cultures that is unprecedented in human history, with them pursuing the capability to kill us in large numbers. We ignore them at our peril.

I think that the world's a better place when one decides to be positive instead of focusing on negative aspects.

i don't know if it was really a better place before.. all the same crap was going on before and we just weren't really aware of it. i think we're better off now because we know whats going on more & that is something good to know.

I think more idealistic especially for Americans, we never dreamed something like 911 would happen here in this great country, makes us feel more vulnerable.

I guess we felt safer only because what happened on 9/11 hadn't happened yet.
