I think that it is perfectly safe to fly in a plane with an 8 week old. I would call the airlines and see what special arrangements if any need to be made.

Wow, you're catching alot of hassle for asking here instead of calling your pediatritian!
We flew four times in a month with our 3 month old daughter. We prepped a bottle before boarding (you can take formula through security). We began feeding her as the plane taxi'ed. She ate while we took off (the sucking helped release the pressure in her ears). After eating, she slept for most of the 3 hour flight.
She woke up and started fussing as we were landing, but another bottle did the trick (if your child isn't hungry, a pacifier will do the same thing for the ears).
Our pediatritian recomended that we NOT give her any medicine, but I'd never discourage you to call your own ped and follow his/her advice over mine.

It is totally safe to fly with him. I think what's more important is whether or not you feel comfortable at 8 weeks old.

Yes. A great thing to do is have him nursing, bottle feed or a pacifier during take off and landings to help with pressure changes for his ears. If you plan to hold him during the flights it's a good idea to have him in a secure snuggli in the event of turbulence - you don't want to lose hold of him - or purchase a airline seat for him and have him in an airline approved child safety seat.

Gheesh, people! Maybe she WILL call her pediatrician, but she's asking YOU for your experiences, my goodness! That's what answers is for. You got a couple of funny answers, like the one, "as long as it is on a plane." By the way, yes it is safe. Usually what is safe and comfortable for you is the same for baby as long as you take care for their gentleness and fragility. Keep him hydrated and his skin moisturized for his comfort and feed him so he's swallowing to keep his little ears from popping too much during take off and landing.

My daughter is 2 months old and we are flying from Atlanta to Vegas next month, my pediatrician recommends as lond as they have started their shots, its ok. Just to nurse or give them a bottle on take off and landing. I was hoping to be able to knock her out with benedryl, but they are still too young. She said to give her Pediacare or Tylenol cold for the decongestant for her ears.

Yes. I flew with my daughter the first time when she was 4 weeks old and that was over 18 years ago.

IS THIS NOT A QUESTION FOR A PEDIATRITION???
Come on people...sometimes we should actually pick up the phone and CALL the doctor instead of listening to the advise our peers give us....all babies are different and a doctor should make this decision. you don't even know if the person giving the advise even has a baby, is a doc (for those that say they are), or even "knows someone who knows someone!" think!

Sure. Put him in an infant seat on the plane. Strap him in. Make sure you have a way to give him lots of fluids on take-off and landing, so his ears won't pop. Keep him sucking during this time. Otherwise, have a nice trip!
