a 220v clothing dryer type plug
is it safe to just daisy-chain that type of plug with an extender cord?

It can be safe, depending on the amount of distance you need to cover and the amp rating of the wire you are running. It is however recommended that you don't daisy chain simply because every time you add a connection such as a plug it creates the possibility of a spark which can lead to a fire, especially in a very dry location such as that around a dryer. It is unlikely that you will need new wire run to the dryer plug, since most are rated far greater than the normal current draw. If you have no experience with electrician work, then it is best to hire a professional, or at least consult one before continuing. Normal 110-115v househould electricity is dangerous and can cause death by electrocution, and that is only 15 amp circuits. A dryer circuit is usually rated at 220-240v and 30-50 amps which can very easily kill you and anyone close to you.

not safe at all and NEVER should be done.

220V lines are deadly anyways, call an electrician in and he will move the electrical box for the dryer by putting in a few more feet of wire and a junction box at the end of the old wire.

also, he will check the existing breaker and wire size,,,,if its not up to par for the wires ampacity, he MUST replace it as you dont want a fire in your house......the same reason the daisy chain should never be done.

It's really not safe to do that. You can buy a longer cord for the dryer from whatever store you bought the dryer from. They should come in different lengths.
