75 mg/kg * 70 kg = 5250 mg of fluoride.

If the toothpaste was 0.24% w/w fluoride then

5250 mg / 0.0024 = 2187500 mg of toothpaste

= 2187.5 grams (this is like 4.8 pounds!!)

2187.5 grams toothpaste / X grams per tube = number of tubes

For a 70 kg adult,lethal dose of fluoride = (70*75)mg=5250mg=5.25g .
Let us suppose that n tubes would work out the problem,so,
n*x*24/10000=5.25
n = 52500/(x*24)
n = 2187.5/x

Multiply 75 X 70 to see the total dose. Multiply x by 1000 to convert to milligrams, then by 0.0024 to see how many mg of fluoride in each tube. Divide your first answer by this last answer to see how many tubes.

Ok, Na = 23.0 g/mol, F = 19.0 g/mol so a 100 gram tube of toothpaste should have (19.0/(23.0+19.0))x100g x (0.24%/100%) = 0.1086 g of F or 108.6 mg of F. Lethal dose (LD) = 75 mg/Kg x 70 Kg = 5250 mg of F is lethal to a 70 Kg adult. So 5250 mg / 108.6 mg/ 100g tube = 48.34 100 g tubes or rounded up 49 100 g tubes of tooth paste would be fatal! it would depend on the size and weight of the person ingesting the toothpaste.. it would be a good question for mythbusters
