DepoProvera is an injectible contraceptive. Its given once a month. Simple enough injection, prevents ovulation and no ovulation = u dont get pregnant!!
It does have long term side effects, as do all medications -- one of the few side effects is weight gain.
Its convenient, effective, you dont have to worry about remembering to take a pill at a certain time every day. All in all a very good contraceptive option especially for those 25-45yrs of age, with no history of hypertension, hypercholestrolemia, diabetes, venous thrombosis or hyperlipidemias.
And if she doesnt want to take injections, she could always go for the pill, or an implantable device - IUD, or use a condom!!! There are several different techniques of contraception.... but Im sure thats an answer for another question. Hope this answers all your questions.

The injection works well for those who forget to take the pill. However, there are some undesirable side effects to it. I would recomend the patch...that is what I use and I love it. I don't have to worry about taking a pill at the same time everyday, I just change it once a week.

depo shot will make her gain a lot of weight, birth control pills are better to use. she has to go to her doctor and ask about which kind of birth control is best for her. and tell her that her boyfriend needs to wear a condom, it's safer to have double protection.
