I lived in Prague and regularly used cashpoints, they were no problem. Just watch out for people watching cashpoints (like in the UK) and put your money away before you turn around. And beware of pickpockets, especially on trams, they target tourists, but I never had a problem.

Oh and watch out for prostitutes (I didn't see what your name was so don't know if male or female, sorry!) they like British and American males and will come up, hug them saying how much they like them, then take their wallet and phone etc. I know of this happening a few times on the main street near muzeum.

But on the whole I think Prague is safe. Enjoy it there, its great!

If you need to get money....then yes, of course! If you're only going for a short time then you might as well take as much as you'll need in cash to avoid the high withdrawal charges. But there's no reason why it would be a problem to use the cash points if needed!

As opposed to carrying loads of cash and travellers cheque? Yes. Just follow the same cautious practices you follow at home - make sure there is no mugger nerby or someone looking over you shoulder whist entering the PIN.

Just be sure to check for signs of tampering on the machine.

Also look out for PIN theives who may be hanging around the machine.
Like anywhere in the world, theives rely on their victims being ignorant and careless.
