The White Sox were nothing more than "Lightning In A Bottle". One and done!! Their manager is less than intelligent. He thinks he's bigger than the game. If he hadn't won last year I don't think White Sox management would have put up with his idiotic remarks all season. Like a lot of teams they just happened to get hot at the right time. They were never the best team in baseball, even last year.

Well...was it luck that the Yankees didn't win the World Series??

The Sox's season this year is a disappointment to its fans and those who thought they were going to make it back to the playoffs...But it was a bad season...they are right there around 90 wins, which is more than most of the playoff teams in the NL. Which, I think shows that it was not luck that they made it last year...Now if they were merely a .500 team or below that woudl be another story.

Unfortunatly other AL teams, including 2 i nthe Sox's division had years where everything clicked and they overachieved. That happens in baseball and usually the team who make the playoff do overachieve just enough to beat out the other teams.

If all teams play to their average day in and day out, the Yankees would have won the World Series every year over the last 10 years. But the good thing is that years come where a White Sox, Marlins, Angels, or can it be the Twins or the Tigers this year? play just good enough beyond what they can to win it all.

Luck had nuttin' to do with it. They owned their divison all of 2005 and, except for that brief run by the Indians toward the end, were never in danger of losing it. That ain't lucky -- that's consistent, dominant baseball.

This year the White Sox basically ran into a team (the Tigers) that did what THEY did last year -- that is, the Tigers owned the division all year and, aside from a slump or two here or there, never really gave it up.

All that said, I'm a Cubs fan -- so while I don't wish any ill on the Sox and I respect what they accomplished last year, I'm definitely not weeping in my Wheaties over their collapse. Perhaps the best thing about it is I won't have to endure another World Series victory parade.

I hate the White Sox but I will tell you that there is no luck involved in a 99 win season. The Sox just arent as good this year as they were last year and the Tigers and Twins are both a lot better this year.

Well, i don't think they got "lucky" because they basically ran the playoffs. They made it because of skill, team chemistry and good pitching. I rather think it was just their year instead of luck. They would've been lucky if some other team had an injury or something that pervented them from going. In baseball, teams rarely make the playoffs because of luck because its such a long season and their record is more than likely gonna reflect their performance overall rather then just a few games like in say fottball.

And belive me, this is a cubs fan saying this stuff.

Teams rarely make the playoff's repeatedly. How on earth do you think they were lucky? They only lost 1 playoff game last year. That's not luck that's dominance. And their pitchers threw for 7 complete games in succession. That's never happend before. Do you guys know anything about baseball?

No, they had a terrific team last year. They still do, but the pitching has not been on fire like it was. The Tigers and Twins are also having phenominal years, causing the ChiSox to lag behind.

Sure they were lucky. They went 7-1 in the ALCS and 4-0 in the world series. If "Dee-troit" fans add that up (combine the numbers, get it?) that's 11-1.

Yeas they did get lucky. But "Luck" is a very important role in life. Maybe some other teams this year got lucky.
