My son was the same way. He would go, but in his pants. For some reason he was afraid to sit on the toilet. Then one day I had him squat rather than sit and you know it worked. Then in a short period of time he started sitting on the toilet. Might be worth a try.

Also, since he might be constipated as well, I'd suggest all natural Optiflora. It has helped other little guys with this problem.

This two-product system includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora). Patented guaranted delivery of 500 million microflora to intestines. Safe for all ages - infants to seniors.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions or the website.

Give him something that will evacuate his bowel and he has no control. Poor little gaffer is probably constipated and it's hurting for him to go. Talk to the pharmacist about a mild laxative for your son. I don't know his age, but milk of magnesia is a good laxative - it's kinda chalky but will evacuate his bowel within a few hours.

Make sure he has plenty of fluids and plenty of roughage/fibre in his diet so this doesn't happen again.

A bowel movement should not be painful, which is the only thing I can think of that would stop him from pooping.

AND...if he' hasn't pooped in the next 24 hours, call a doctor.

This sounds very serious. Is he drinking enough fluids? Why is he scared? How old is he? Has he been molested? At any rate, he needs to see a MD. I would call now. If you don't have the $$$ for an MD, call the Health Dept and ask for advice. They may be able to suggest a local organization that can assist with this problem. Be proactive for your child.

If it's a problem with not being able to go(constipation), try giving him apple juice(mild laxative effect) or prune juice(more effect, but worse taste, in my opinion) in place of other liquids for a while. Make sure he's getting plenty of fluids. If you've just recently switched him to cow milk, try taking him off of it for a while(could be lactose intolerance). Too much cheese can also stop ya up.

When I was a little girl my younger sister had the same problem, we both were naturally very lithe skinny children and she was even slighter as a young child..I remember she had the same trouble, and an early childhood memory is of my mom holding her across her lap and giving her a suppository, I suppose the family Dr. recco'd it...Try that!

and oops, my sis would kill me if she saw this, we're both grown adults now :P

Increase the water intake, decrease the milk. Grape nuts cereal (or hi fiber cereal), dried prunes, lots of fruits and veggies, fruit juice.

Hold back on the refined grains like goldfish crackers, plain white bread, and heavy starches such as rice, corn, pasta.

You can give him "fiber sure" without him knowing it because it is clear. You just mix it in his food. Look for it on the pharmacy aisle.

He must feel awful! BM is the most basic of basics. Something is really wrong physically and/or emotionally. If you have been scolding him or freaking out in front of him about it, please stop...and most definitely take him to his pediatrician or M.D. as soon as possible. Poor baby...
