No its not a toe nail trimming thing as I cut them and file the ends down so they are not sharpe.

I can buy cheap or expensive socks but still they wear through.

It may be somthing to do with the fact I wear steel toe cap boots and they rub, but I wear a outer pair of socks as well ontop of the normal ones when wearing boots.

It could be that your foot is not supported well and so your socks aren't wearing evenly. Try getting new shoes or replacing your insoles. You may need an orthotic. Another thought. Maybe your sweat is eating through your socks. You could try drinking more water and improving your diet. If it really bothers you, make an appointment with a podiatrist.

I have the same problem, I don t have long toenails, or sweaty feet or wear industrial footwear. I find that no matter which socks I buy they are OK until they are washed (at 40C) after which they shrink. They then stretch and eventually fail just above the heel. I buy the largest socks possible but this does not help. I actually saw on TV a sly cameraman focus on David Cameron s feet has he was sitting on a chair. His sock had a big hole just like the ones I get. For the first time I did not feel alone.

Are your toenails really long? They might be poking holes in them. Do you wear one pair for a really long time? You really shouldn't; this is just gross, and will wear out your socks quickly. Make sure you wash them frequently. Get new ones as soon as your old ones start to show signs of wear. If your shoes are a bit too small, this might be causing them to rub on your feet (and socks) wearing them thin and causing holes in some places.
