An aneurysm is a dilation of a blood vessel. The danger would be rupture. Aneurysms are in two basic forms, fusiform, which is a wide dilation of the whole vessel, or saccular, or berry form, which bulges out the side of a vessel, forming a "berry". Fusiform aneurysms are more likely to form in the abdominal aorta, and the saccular more likely in the intracranial vessels.

I think the first two responders are confused in their understanding or terminology, please disregard their comments.

An aneurysm is a weaken portion of a blood vessel. The blood contained within the vein or artery is under pressure when the heart pumps it along. This pressure can cause the weakened area to bulge out and in some cases rupture resulting in internal bleeding.

The size and location of the aneurysm, which can occur anywhere in the body, determines how aggressively it is treated. Surgery is usually the treatment of choice.
