I have a neighbor w/ an adult son who is profoundly retarded. He is not a child. The man is dd and nonverbal. He has a tendency to run in random directions so his mother holds onto him and drags him around by the arm so he doesnt take off. He always smells like pee. Always. She brings him outside on cold days in shorts and barefoot. Often she makes him sit in the mud while she talks to friends outside. He sits and eats dirt or bangs his head while she talks and she ignores it.Their house smells real bad like pee because everything has been soaked. Often he has dried fecal matter all down his legs or up his back. The man has a very bad skin infection from chewing on his hands. His teeth are rotten. His mom always begs for food and tells me he's hungry. I give them food everytime they come begging.
Am I being too critical? Is all this because of his disability or is it neglect? who would I talk to about my concerns? is there an agency or something? should I mind my own busines

You are definitely not being too critical. This is profound neglect and abuse. I don't know where you live, but many cities have social service agencies which could provide some assistance in his care. As far as who to report it to, I would start with the police. This man is in danger due to the infections you mentioned. If you can look in the yellow pages, you may find an agency that deals with retarded adults or any social service agency could point you in the right direction. Good luck. You are a good soul. In Oklahoma you would report this to the Department of Human Service, most states have the equivalent agencies. You can also call the local Police, it is their duty to investigate. I must warn you that local cops have a tendency to be lazy and they will not want to work this case, they may see this as a family matter. I was a city cop I know what I am talking about. But you have a responsibility as a human being to make sure this person is taken care of, hold the cops feet to the fire.

Kudos to you for recognizing abuse and willing to get involved. You are not being too critical, you are being a good samaritan. NO this is not because of his disability it is neglect and abuse. There is no other words for it. Contact your local division of family services center or there is also an 800 number that you can call for abuse, I dont know what it is for the state that you live in but you can call information and get this. Again Kudos to you for being a good person and seeing this as an issue and taking a stand to try and get it to stop. The adult son is a person whether he has a disability or not. People are fined for treating dogs better than it sounds his mom is treating him

have somebody bypass with you as a witness once you bypass on your relative. Ask the well being branch to make a bypass to. Or ask somebody out of your television station to income it out because of the fact that's they who've the hidden cameras. the subject with proving your element is that the area could get closed down, and then the place might all those disabled human beings bypass? It sounds to me (if there is moist clothing) that no person has presented the money to purchase relies upon. a great number of situations places like that are so short staffed that they are used in basic terms as a babysitting place and that's predicted that the relatives are available in and help out (substitute the diapers and sparkling up the guy). women human beings's agencies in this usa could party and demand greater advantageous care of the elderly and disabled with the help of giving of their time voluntarily to assist out those human beings in the event that they are in a position to't take them into their very own residences then a minimum of to sparkling up after them in those assisted residing places.

Yes, and I would report it if I were you.
You can call your local hospital and ask to speak to a Social Worker, or call Child Protective Services, even though he is an adult. Either one will be able to point you in the right direction.
Or, you can call the police, who should notify CPS to take him.

You diffently should report this condition. No human being should have to live in this condition. Not only the son needs help but also the mother. You can report this to the police and they will investigate and report to the proper office. you can also call your Department of welfare in your locality.

What ever you do, I would not ignore this. I haven't seen any agency to report this to online, so I'd recomend talking to a local police officer to see if there is any thing you can do about this.
