There is a great book called 'What Color is Your Parachutte?'. It has several exercises in it that help you identify the kinds of things you enjoy and what skills or talents you have and then translate those into potential jobs that would be a fit for you. This was required reading when I was in college and I find myself going through the excercises everyonce awhile in my career. They come out with a new version every year. Your library has a copy. So, this is one idea.

I'd say that once you get a general idea for the type of career you might want, you should definately focus in on getting a college degree. A college degree will initially open doors for you. But a college degree from the right school will provide you with instant connections in the business world (alumni) and teach you things that you didn't think you needed to know that will come in handy later in your life. I would highly suggest seeking out a large school with a big alumi base and a great reputation. Even if you have to work your way through school or go into a little debt. Later in life you will be so glad you did.

Lots of people travel as part of their jobs. Sales people, pilots, consultants, business people. You may find though that you like to travel, but not all of the time. So, you may find jobs that allow you to travel to a conference 2 or 3 times a year. People can get burned out on traveling all of the time.

Good luck in researching this.

Hi, I'm 40 and still making it up as I go. Used to be, back in my parents day, that you picked a career and worked for 1 or 2 places for you entire working lives. That is no longer the case - people are having 2,3 and 4 careers in a lifetime. I work w/ a guy that used to own an advertising company, once he got his kids through college he went back to school and earned a law degree.
The simple answer would be a flight attendant, but why not aim high - be a pilot - or a ship's captain - both of those careers allow you to work for either big companies or small outfits and travel. You could go into International Marketing, International Law, teaching, Pharmeceutical sales, or any type of sales actually - but you'd probably need a Business degree.

Go see your guidance councellor - he/she should have some type of aptitude quiz to point you in a direction most compatible w/ your strengths.

Aim high.

Maybe you should save up some money and travel before you start a career. Traveling and finding out who you are is a good thing to do BEFORE choosing what you want to do for the rest of your voluntarily enslaved life.

My friend has just jacked in her life and become a truck driver on the continent. She has no rent or mortgage as she lives in the truck, and gets to spend time in the countries she drives through, especially France as no trucks are allowed on the roads on a Sunday. This means that if you are in France, you have to park up over the weekend. Shame.

Business.

But, you won't like travel once you start a family. It gets rough after a few years.

You could be: a stewardess, a missioniary, or a public speaker on issues like poverty or hunger. That's what I would do if I could travel a lot. You could also work for a cruise liner.

at 16 i was going to change the world (pilot, deep sea diver, stock broker) all and any of these, but i did none of them.
if you are true to yourself and to others then whatever you do you'll be happy (sounds easy but it isn't!!) as for the travelling try voluntary work to start, then good luck, cos we all need some of that!
