I am a 22/m white. I was an army brat and lived everywhere with all races. I really don't see race unlike 90% of the world. I have this issue I've been struggling with for a long time. Since 13 I have fit in better and felt more comfortable around black people and in urban culture (I have a fade, diamonds in my ears, wear jordans and tims, only listen to r&b and rap) than in "white" culture. I am just trying to be myself and I feel best this way, but I don't know why. I've tried to be preppy and it didn't feel right. I'm struggling with this because some ppl want me to have this image of being this all american kid and it just isn't me. I am graduating college with my bachelor's in may and am gonna be a juve delinq counselor. My mentors and colleagues don't judge me (as far as I can tell), but I can tell there's issues with how I am. I don't know if I should jus conform, look and act their way, or to jus be me. Why am I this way and what do you think?

90% of the world sees people as black, white, asian. latino, arab, etc. I just see people. I don't divide poele up into racial subcultures. My sister is 29 and married to a black man and has 3 children with him. My parents are not big on interracial dating but are very open minded people, though

Its because you have soul. Some do and some don't i think you should be yourself and if people dont like it then too bad for them. I have a friend who's married to a white man and we always forget he white. so color dosent matter its the person you are inside that counts, try to surround yourself with people who appreciate you for you, and who you are.

I grew up feeling more comfortable with black friends because white people in my community were extremely judgemental. White kids at school only wanted to be friends with those of the upper economic class. The black people in my community accepted me for who I was. As a result I have also grown to not see other races, but to just see people as individuals. It is going to be an advantage for you to have this perspective since you will be working with young delinquents. They have been judged all of their lives, and you will be able to counsel them as humans rather than as racial categories or statistical trends. There is a reason that you have been given this gift of seeing the beauty of all races, and hopefully your work will be blessed by your appreciation for all of the kids you will be working with. Be grateful that you are not discriminatory.

You should allways be yourself, but just remember the world works on perception. If you are going to be a stock broker, then you need to dress the part and look it based on what everyone percevies it to be. If you want to be a skaetboarder then you need to dress for that part. If you are happy hanging out with people from the hood and like to look street, then you should do that. Theyre are things you have to do in life that arent always about being yourself. Work is one of them. Some jobs you need to look a certain way in order to be beliveable to the general public. Just never forget who you are under the clothes...remeber they are just clothes and its your actions that will let people know if your are good or bad in nature. So if the way you dress is huirting your chances at a job, then conform for the job if you like it alot. As the rolling stones put it, you cant always get what you want.....but if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need.

I think you are harboring an inner guilt for being white. You are not a racist at all as a matter of fact, you would change places with any of your black friends. But you hate the fact that there is racial hatred in this country by both whites and blacks and you wish it would just go away. I can't blame you. Seems with all our technology, we are still way behind in human kindness.

Hey, you've got a great comfort zone. Enjoy it!
(I also lived about the world almost my entire life. Felt much more comfortable chatting with the young hustlers on temple steps in Kathmandu than my condo cohorts in Vermont. I'm now retired to Chiang Mai, Thailand.)

Yet you say that you fit in with "blacks" based on your clothing choises, music preferences and piercings. You completely see race, although you may or may not be racist. Black people aren't defined by baggy jeans and diamonds and white people aren't defined by "preppy."

God has created the universe, and humans unique for each other.
Every human is created in the image of god yet god makes every human unique.
Humans are so special that even the Father and Holy Spirit joined Jesus Christ in creating us, and that is how it is every time a human is created till this day:
Genesis 1:26-27 (Young's Liter Translation)
26And God saith, `Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth.'
27And God prepareth the man in His image; in the image of God He prepared him, a male and a female He prepared them.
Allot of people say christianity will keep you closed minded, when that is not the case and is proven wrong everytime:
Genesis 1:28 (Young's Literal Translation)
28And God blesseth them, and God saith to them, `Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over every living thing that is creeping upon the earth.'
You are unique. And you are created unique, thus you act unique, making you uniquely special in God's eyes.

You sound like all the white teenaged boys in my neighborhood. I like the color blindness. I hope more people begin to think like you.
Now if only rap didn't denigrate women and promote violence...

I think you are confused and maybe you're just going through some kink of phase. If you get any more confused maybe you can get some counseling.
