Why does there have to be a 'hard battle'? And why do you use the word 'against'? Why can't you learn to at least like and respect her? Maybe then she will like you. Don't be bitter like some people who answered this. Try calling her and inviting her out to lunch or maybe ask her to go to a movie with you. If you love your husband then try, try, try! I don't understand why the word inlaw has to be associated with the word enemy. Things could be so much better if both sides would try. I love my mother-inlaw. After all, she gave me my husband.

You are in the same situation that thousands of Indian newly weds are. Be patient allow his mother do things for him - understand that it is difficult for her to stop being close to her son. Let her and tell how much you appreciate her attention. With the sister-in- law make friends with her do not be aloof. Change your attitude and you will observe they will respond. With the husband at an appropriate time tell him how hurt you get when he derides you ask him to suggest how you could improve.

Remember you are the outsider and you have to adjust a bit and you will find that the boys family will repond positively, the trouble actually starts when people start comparisions with their own families. Go ahead and Good Luck

This is a battle you can not win. I have learned that not seeing them often is the best solution and the times I do see them, I just go with the flow. I try to anticipate what she wants and I give it. As for unsolicited advise, it goes in one ear and out the other unless it is something I can use. For disagreements, I let my partner handle them. It is good when you have a husband who understands wrong from right whether it is his mom or not and since this is her son, she will communicate (note that I did not say listen) and will at least be informed of what was wrong with the situation.

But if your in love he's worth it. Just stop talking to her so she can't do anything. Don't grow up as some people have writen when they may not understand whats going on.

Magai, some people will never get along, others will, fact of life sorry....
Fortunately my wife and mother are more friendly than some. Mind you a lot has to do with the in-law to start with and the first impression. NEVER LIE is a good way to start.

How do you expect an answer if you don't clarify what this 'hard battle' is all about? Saas bahu relationship in Indian households are mostly sour. Try adjusting and convincing her to see your way. If she isn't incurable, that is.
