I will begin my answer to this question with a question. Why shouldn't it be legal to smoke pot. I marched with an organization called N.O.R.MaL.(The National Order for Reformed Marijuana Laws). Our entire purpose was and is to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes. Let me ask you another question; Should it be legal for people who have medicinal needs to obtain pot? I should hope so!! For people with certain types of cancer, Glaucoma, and certain other needs, pot is necessary to increase appetite and maintain healthy body weight. Put yourself in the position of a loved one. If it meant life or death, or even critical illness for your loved one to ingest marijuana, how would you feel then? Now I can't speak for you or anyone else for that matter, but I for one believe that someone in medical need of pot should be able to aquire it with little or no trouble. After all, how many people do you personally know of who have smoked a joint and because of doing so, beat up their wife and kids? How many people do you know of who without the company of alcohol or some other illicite drug who were directly responsible for an auto accident, hit and run,mob style beating, or any other act of senseless violence. Give these questions some serious thought and consideration, or even some research before you ask me such an ignorant and unresearched question! Good Day , Ladies and Gentlemen

Not at all in the correct category, but the substance has often produced philosophical thought and expression.

Legal is currently subjective, and vague. Our government has the means in place to legalize it, even control it to a degree for profit purposes.

The issue is, as with anything else, in a supply and demand society,,,How do they manage to balance non controlled, profit, and laws defining what legal is?

Odd how the letter of any law can so contradict the opinion or interpretation of the law... Thank Attorneys for that. Sigh.

One might be able to legally GROW, even Possess, but selling, unregulated is where the Govt. insists itself.

I suspect if you know anything about the LAW, you can equate this to the IRS, and the constant revisions.

The more important issue is what effect the substance has? What it's "side effects" are,,, Socially,,,and WHO might eventually be recognized as Legal, or not,,,so vague is this.

it absolutely should be legal...but i think 1 reason it may never be legal is how would the government sell it, how would they put a tax on it? and people would still prolly buy it straight from their dealers anyway. i see nothing wrong with it personally, although i was brought up that it was very bad...i think if more people smoked it, the world would be a more chill place to live in.

I think so....I mean beer is legal and it cause people to get mean and fight and causes car wrecks...But have you ever seen anyone high that wanted to fight or that couldn't drive....There are no known causes or a car wreck being caused by pot....Why not let people ahve a good natural time...Like the saying goes I trust God not man..... The only reason that its not legal in the US is because they havent figured out how to tax it yet because so many people grow it on the side...If they could control it and make money then it already would be...

We need to legalize it or get all the other addictive substances off the market. Pot is no worse than any of them.

I don't toke anymore but I think it would be a win-win situation for everybody. The government could regulate it, take it out of the hands of gangs and therefore reduce crime. Also, it could tax it and create an extra revenue stream.

People with certain ailments and diseases could use it openly in order to help reduce their pain. Low THC hemp could be grown as a renewable, bio-friendly manufacturing product that would create clothing, paper and many other products.

BUT, governments are generally run by very conservative, puritanical people who loath things that are associated with hippies.

Too bad.

Yes for three reasons.
1. the illegal drugs trade is the main source of money for terrorists and organized criminals. The legalization of soft drugs such as cannabis will remove money from their economy and put it into ours. It will also lower the number of people getting onto harder drugs as cannabis is often used by dealers to tempt people onto other stuff.
2. The government should not legislate morals. i.e. it should protect us from each other but it should allow people the freedom to do stuff to themselves.
3. Cannabis is of a similar level of toxicity to alcohol and cigarettes (arguably less) and therefore if they are legal so should cannabis.

I smoked pot like most teenagers and had laugh, but it wasn't funny no more when my best mate went schizophrenic on the stuff! We hardly talk any more because it completely changed her personality (for the worse)

So no, it shouldn't be legal!

No, once that happens it'll be taxed and sold out of stores. The government will want their cut. That'll never happen anyway. People just mellow out too much. Who will they get to fight wars? Join politics? Destroy the earth? Give a sh*t about all the endless, pointless crap we all have shoveled down our throats daily? My God, we might even see the truth hidden in all the lies and overthrow our lords!!!!!!! Then again we might just buy a bad of Doritos and watch cartoons.

it is in some places. there haven't been negative effects there, so there seems to be no good reason for it to be illegal here. At the very least, there should be social experiments, legalizing it in some areas and seeing if that causes a disaster in those places or not.
