I had been at my work place for 9 mths. (doing a damn good job) Someone else was in my postion for 4mths and she was moved up to a higher postion. And now her spot was open for about an hour. Yet they didn't ask me or even say anything to me like, "your perfect at where your at right now, blah blah blah". But they said nothing. Yet I'm afraid to ask because it hurts that fact that they wouldn't think that I would exspect them to ask me. I need reasurence. But I need another job that matches 401K and moves and gives raises to the ones that deserve them. Just asking for TLC

I worked for the crappiest company ever for 2 years-2 years too long. The only people who were recognized were the ones who kissed butt or allowed themselves to be abused and manipulated. Quite honestly, I'd start looking for another (better) job in the next few months-since you'll have a year's experience- unless they start treating you the way you should be treated.

Congratulations on doing a good job and being a loyal employee. It's not easy working well when you think you should have been chosen instead of someone else.

But, I think you are working from hearsay, and therefore, not the most reliable information upon which to make career decisions. For ex, how did you verify who was in your position for only 4 months if you weren't even employed there yet?

Now, promotions are made based on someone's decision about who is better equipped to handle the responsibilities of the higher position. Are you telling us that you are more capable than the person who was promoted???

In any case, don't quit until you are convinced you will not be promoted. Future employers look askance at employees who have had numerous short-term jobs. It labels them as people who do not work well with others. So give it a full year of doing your very best - be prompt and on time, be helpful to everyone, and be the best employee in the company. If good things don't happen after a year, then consider it again or talk to your supervisor. Good Luck
