what do you mean by "ship"..something that is the size of what was in Pirates of the Caribbean or off of Old Ironsides? Those are very big pieces of wood, cleverly engineered and put together just to stand up, let alone hold sails and in real life, about 4 foot around.......if youre talking about yacht masts, for example, the mainmast on my boat is 6" x 12" and 47 feet long, hollow in the middle, and glued together out of 14 different pieces.......so depending on how big your project is and how much force it has to withstand, you may have to fall back on lumber yard 4x4s or 6x6, bolted together......and a good rigger to make sure it has stays and shrouds so it doesn't fall over....more details, please!

Try a boat yard that has alot of yachts lying around. If they dont have one then they might know where to get one from.
A cheaper idea might be get an old telegraph pole and spray it white. I doubt if you would be able to tell the difference.
