Because a mouse will flee when attacked. Its a way of calling a man a coward.

Because in the olden days it was the man who was meant to be brave and the protector. Women looked after the children and the running of the house, and the men protected all of them. Men were also the ones who went to war and fought battles.
If the PC brigade want to step in and change this all cos of equal rights then they really have too much time on their hands. Besides, I know when it comes to equal rights, they have women's interests at heart, but honestly, we really don't care about this kinda stuff

Well, you men have worked hard at trying to let us women believe that you are the stronger sex. We pretended that it was true, just to keep the peace and get you to do things you know, why, cause we got the brains. (enough to know that you ought not to have said "a women" because its a contradiction in terms...a = singular and women = plural)
anyway, men try to come across as strong and macho and all that sorta thing, back in the days of the flintstones, all men did was hunt, grab a woman by the hair, shag her and promise to protect her (bless the flintstones). nowadays we're more keen to level, because so many "great" men made such a lot of stupid mistakes all thoughout history (mao tse tung / stalin / mussolini u name it). so the expression came about "are you a man or a mouse" as in "are you gonna protect me or squeak and look scary" Women are strong in that they are able to openly cry when they find emotions overwhelming (i'm not one of these sorta girlie girls but i'm not gay either!) but while men think its STRONG to NOT cry, we women know that it takes strength to admit defeat and cry. Did you know that statistically its guys who are more prone to nervous breakdowns and suicide...because they are under so much pressure to BE A MAN. what a load of hogwash. its a social construct which, though primitive, is really something which needs to be addressed by our non-thinking society (at large). people are so ready to just go through the motions of life that they dont always selectively think about the things they teach their sons and daughters...they try to stick to norms and how they were brought up, whether its right or wrong. in my own family, we were 4 girls. my dad had no one to help him around the garden etc so he got us to chip in...it made me wiser and more readily able to realize that i can do things for myself as a female, unlike a lot of other females i see around me. (and i'm now not just referring to gardening).
I can be quite mousy about spiders though! you think this is some sort of prejudice against males (this mouse issue) but there are at least a thousand other derogatory terms MEN and even women call other women, that is bound to women only. it just doesnt compute when used on men (unless they're gay and one is being sarcastic or something)
eg. cow, b*tch, sl*g, wh*re, sl*t, nag etc...
when a man sleeps around he is "sowing his wild oats" when a woman does it, then a lot of those above terms qualify...
oh yes, if there is something that can be applied to a man by way of terms, it makes it almost fair for all the derogatory terms that we women have to endure...so stop whining...

Most women don't take kindly to being referenced or compared to rodents. Men tend to enjoy cartoons and don't mind being compared to Jerry, Mickey or Mighty. To some of us, they are role models.
