It is where you can set your car at a certain (cruising) speed and it will stay at that speed without your foot on the gas. It will stay at that speed until you take the cruise control off. Word of warning though, never, ever use cruise control in the rain. It locks the brakes up and can make you hydroplane over the pavement.

Cruise control is a device that allows you to set your automobile at a desired speed, and the cruise control will maintain this speed, without you having to keep your foot on the accelerator. It will maintain this speed until you hit the brakes, or cancel the cruise control.

Cruise control allows you to set a given speed that your car will maintain automatically. You still need to drive the car, but you can take your foot off the gas. It can make long drives more comfortable.

nah-this is awesome for long road trips-can be dangerous at night though so be carfull--you set the speed you want and the car stays at the speed-until you break and even if you do-the cruise control automatically goes back to that speed. Don't have to worry so much about speeding and getting a costly ticket. Try it.

Cruise control will have the car take over your accelleration and keep it at a certain preset speed. You accelerate to a certain speed on a highway, enable it, and it will keep it at that speed until you decide to intervene.
This allows you to give your feet a break, and also you get better mileage on long drives.
