Sadly no it's not easy - but it can be done.
It takes a lot of study and each exam takes months to prepare for (unless you really know the subject)
You should buy the Microsoft self paced training books and transcender do good electronic learning aids.
It'll be worth it when you complete the exams - your earning potential will go right up!
(I did my MCAD myself - it took a lot of work but I got there in the end)

asquith_6....
In short - Sadly No - Not unless you are currently in the industry and have gained a fair amount of practical experience.... The reason behind this is some years ago - namley the MCSE 2k was relatively easy tp pass, but recently passed students where still unable to the job in the real world. So the industry told Microsoft to make things harder, and they have in the MCSE 2003....
The exams are now based around practical experience and not theroy alone, which makes it even harder for Self-study...... The module that has caused more failures of MCSE students is MOC 070-291 - Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Window Server 2003 Network Infrastructure. This is now 95% focused on the pratical element i.e "you have to configure, manage and/or mantain a virtual network" so if you haven't done or have experience of configuring DNS, routing etc then you'll find things hard going....
It's not impossible.... just very hard, there are some very good self study guides and virtual labs, but even these cost.
hope this helps

If you are in IT you can reduce study time. You need to set up a home network, so you can build and play with Microsoft Servers etc. Its a long hard course depending on experience. But even to a networker it is a hard road to travel. As an IT Manager a 16 year old genius who has an MCSE may ask for job, it does not impress me. If you want to further an IT career, It would get my full attention ........

While you can do this the reality of the job market and the benefits are limited. All employers want you to be able to back your MCSE with pratical experience.
I did earn my upgrade from NT 4.0 to 2000 using self study. I also had some years of experience with 2000 prior to taking the test.

Do not know, but after 30 years in I.T. industry, consider this "would you be happy to let a 'book learner' loose on your car etc".
The SAD truth is that you either need good grades or practical exprience. The employers (try IBM) will say NO, regardless of their shortages, find one that will give in-house training or experience,..
