I am so close to finishing my undergraduate degree in physics, but I don't even like physics anymore. I don't understand anything we talk about. I have spent a crap load of money going to a private school, and now, 1.5 semesters before I graduate I want to quit. What is wrong with me? Can I have a live in tutor?

By all means, don't quit.

"There is profit in all labor." Proverbs

You are much too close to your goal to quit now. The knowledge you are learning and the degree you are obtaining could help you in the future in ways that could greatly surprise you.

It's doubtful that you'll regret it if you finish and almost certain that you will regret it if you don't.

Take an elective that has nothing to do with Physics.

DO NOT QUIT.

My girlfriend gave up just one course shy of completion. She has paid the price and lied about this.

Go to your counselor/adviser and talk about the ennui that you are feeling. If you don't understand what is going on in class then perhaps your head is in another place altogether. A live in tutor won't help but seeking a tutor will.

At a smaller private college you may be able to confer with the instructor about some stumbling blocks.

Here are the rules.
1. Don't skip any classes
2. Do the assignments in the middle of the day when your mind is strongest.
3. Resist the desire to party.
4. Seek counsel in a study buddy, professional or tutor.
5. Formulate the questions that you need to ask and then ask those.

What is wrong with you is that you have chosen a challenging discipline and your head is not in the game. You are feeling frustrated and depressed and right now it feels hopeless.

Quitting seems like the only way to eliminate this annoyance. But, readdressing your response to the stresses that you are feeling is the method that will allow you to finish what you started and move forward with your life.

If you give up now, all that money and hard work will be for naught. Please reconsider.

Work is so much easier than studying science. Just a few short months and you will be rewarded. HOLD ON.

Good Luck

my advice is just keep on rolling and finish the "job" which you have started. I was in the same situation as you when I did my undergraduate course. The only thing which kept me going was my sheer determination not to waste the time, efforts, and money I have put in. It was hard but I believe you have your own reasons for not liking physics anymore. The thought which came across my mind at that time was that how the life went. The process to struggle and overcome the situation can make you a better and stronger person to move forward in any ordeals. This will be able to prepare and train you to face the reality of life after you graduate. End results is secondary. Remember the degree scroll that you're gonna earn will serve as an entrance to the corporate world.
To sum it up, Keep on going and finish the job.

Hope it helps

Think VERY carefully before you quit. First, you may want to talk to a career adviser to see what you might be able to do with your Physics degree. Also, many jobs just want to see that you have a degree. The major really doesn't matter. Also, talk to the financial aid people. Things change in that area after you graduate. You MIGHT want to change majors (even at this late date) and spend some extra time in school if it will make the finances easier to handle.
My gut tells me that you should finish off your degree. You can always start working and then go back for something else. I did. Not the easiest thing in the world, but it pays off! Good luck!

Same thing happened to me w/ chemistry.

MUCH of it was the private school...which happened to suck, despite their claims of being a good school. This could be your situation too, but w/ less than a year to go, don't try to change now.

Anyway, 1.5 semsters isn't that long. Gut it out, just to prove to yourself and others that you can finish things.

But DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP, if you don't want to do physics.

Check out the books below for help in finding what suits YOU! What are YOU gifted for, what is your CALLING. When you find it (it still could be physics or physics related) you'll be much happier. But, sticking it out over this short time will be worth it.

Get the undergraduate degree in physics girl and then return to school to get a second degree. It'll be easier to get the second degree and will take less time. Get out of the Private school too expensive and probably way boring.

return to school for a second undergraduate degree will defer your loans also until you get a job.

I wouldn't know anything about physics, but I do know that when are in something that first intested us for so long, it's easy to treat it like a second hand shirt. Go back to the root. Did you like it at first? What drew you to it? Is it what would put you in the line of your carreer and what you want to do? You have invested so much time, effort and money. Don't let it all go to waste. Believe me, you could have been paying for my education to college if it was like that. And I would be graduating. Nothing beats having that paper that says "You did it" and you will make something of your life because of it.
Don't be a fool, stay in school!

No! Don't quit school. A few months ago I was in the same boat as you were...now that I graduated, I'm glad that I finished. It's really difficult to find a job without a degree.

DON'T QUIT. If you still have a year and a half to go, it's not too late to change your major. You might have to stay an extra semester but you could switch to something you like better. Do not let your degree slip away. It is the most important (and expensive) piece of paper you'll ever have and something that no one can ever take away from you.

Don't. Once you finish, you can easily get a job. With physics in your background, who knows. People might be looking for you. If you don't really like physics, then try something else. Yea, something... I can't really bring it to head... try and understand yourself more and see what you really want. However, it seems to late to quit now. Finish the course so you can add "graduate of physics" in your resume, then maybe take a graduate course... or that something i was talking about earlier.
