why two different compounds can't have same molecular formula?

Yes they can, what about isomers.
dimetyl ether and ethyl alcohol both have the formula C2H5O

In general, two different compounds are made up of different combinations of atoms. The molecular formula is a shorthand description of the kinds and numbers of atoms making up the molecule of a compound. Therefore, if two compounds are different, their formulas will describe them as being different. Occasionally two compounds may be made up of exactly the same kinds and numbers of atoms, but arranged differently. In this case their formulas will still be different, as the formula, correctly written, also expresses the manner in which the atoms are grouped.

because they wouldn't be 2 different compounds. different isomers have the same molecular formula however.

Why can't I have two different numbers with the same value? Look up the word different in the dictionary. It means "not the same."
