My mum and dad sat me down and we went through the household bills together and agreed an amount that would cover what I use. We're lucky that both my parents still work, so my housekeeping is not too much, but even if it was more, I wouldn't think it was unfair because we'd come to the amount by working it out properly, not just picking a number. As long as you both talk about it openly and fairly, then any amount should be fine for both of you, as long as she knows that you're using this money because you genuinely need help paying the bills.

I think Ally H's suggestion is a good one. Perhaps charge her a little bit less than the going rate and then you have the opportunity to raise it if you feel you want your own privacy back. She will then look and see it would be cheaper to live on her own than live at home and move out.

I would also keep bills such as the telephone separate and get her to pay for the calls she makes from an itemised phone bill. This is one area that can spiral out of control for you.

A lot would depend on for instance, the amount of meals she has at home. Also, how much does she use the shower, bath, television and of course the telephone? You don't want to take too much off the girl but at the same time she has to learn to pay her way in the world.
You can't expect her to help pay the mortgage, unless of course the house is in her name too. Is the £800 per month nett or gross? Assuming that it is nett then I would think about £300 per month.

I pay my mum £35 a week, i earn £800 a month, but then i do chores around the house & make sure my mum never needs to go out of her way to clear up my mess or anything like that, so i should say £30/35 a week is a good amount

I didn't used to pay my parents much when I started work but I wasn't earning as much as your daughter. At the time kids hate paying their parents, however, I wish mine had made me pay more because when I left home paying 'proper' rent to a landlord was VERY DIFFICULT! How about sitting down and trying to talk calmly to her. Work out yourself how much you think she 'costs' the household a month and take it from there. I'm not a parent so I am sure someone else may be able to give you their own experiences of this. Good luck and enjoy the money she's going to be giving you.

If she is under 18 nothing, Over 18 I would say $350. $200 for room and $150 for all utilities. That is fair. That leaves her $450 for personal items. If she had a one bedroom and her own utilities it would be more! So that helps you and teaches this world ain't cheap. And if she is over 18 why is she only making $800 a month, she may need to find a better paying job!

you first of all need to put a bar on the fone and either that or tell her that you will call bt and ask for an itemised bill and then she pays her part of the bill and contributes towards the rental and as for lodging money that is £60 a week is a good amount if she went into lodging she wouldn't get anything under £75 pounds a week and still have to pay for food she has got to learn to value money you have to lay down the rules and if she dont like it then try it out in that big wide world she will soon see that ther is no place like home good luck u need her to set up a standing order with the bank to pay the money into your account what she has left then his hers dont fall out with her over this just sit down like two adults and talk to her

£800 pm is not great amount, but it will last a lot longer if she is currently living rent free without paying any bills than it would if she was on her own.

I pay half my monthly salary in morgage fees and then pay my bills on top. I do not think you need to hit her with these kind of percentages, particularly if it is her first job. I think £200 pm is reasonable. That is very cheap anyway and will begin to show her the real cost of living, without leaving her bankrupt.

I think it is great that you are trying to instill the value of money into your daughter - she will thank you for it later on in life.

ok charge her half for internet and phone bills, also electricity and water rates...also go halves on the food you provide her with, if she is earning that much then she must pay you something...come to an agreement about the morgage, what ever you pay each month...take half...it's only fair....it will still leave her monye for her nights out and what ever else she needs....going halves is a good way of dealing with this, after all she is under your roof and does use what you use...break it down each month and hand her the bill..if she does not like the arrangement then she should get her own place...she will soon realise how expensive the cost of living is, so half everything....i think thats a fair deal...thats what i did with my son when he was living here....it seemed to work for us

Well just leave her enough money for her to get by on a weekly basis. She does need some spending money to eat and things like that. So just enough in her pocket for the week and the rest should be yours to help out with all the bills and with the food at the house.
