plug ins? but what's their technical name that i can look up in a dictionary (i need to know it so i can translate it in italian)

I will give you more information than you want with the hope that it will answer the question. A socket is the name of the device that a light bulb is screwed into on a lamp. The outlet in the wall is called a receptacle or, if there is a top and bottom, a duplex receptacle. The common vernacular term for the part of an appliance that gets plugged into a receptacle is a "power cord" or simply "the cord". Technically speaking, the part is described by it's configuration and ampacity. A normal cord end would be a "120 volt, 15 amp, straight blade, male end." In Europe where 220 volts is standard an appliance would most likely need a "220 volt,15 (or 20) amp, straight blade, male end."

No. you're taking power from a pliug in the wal socket, run it in a 2 cord run to an inline swap and then on your receptacle on the tip of the cord that takes your gadget plug.

The thing on your wall is called a duplex receptacle and the thing that is on the end of electrical cord is called a male cord cap.
