Although Pong is mostly thought to be the first game it was actually preceded by a system called Computer Space, which was the first commercially sold video game, beating Pong by a year.

1st video game was Pong. I thought it was around 1972, but it could have been '76. The first board game I know of was Foxes and Jackals, an Egyptian game from the third millenium BC. But the very first game is lost in prehistory. Probably dealt with gambling on the toss of some small bones. That's how dice got the nickname 'bones'.

Sir Benny is right. That's the first game I remember too, as far as video arcade games are concerned. Donkey Kong and/or Space Invaders closely followed if memory serves.

I remember the Atari video systems, it was in 1977 when we got one, my daughter was not quite a year old yet. The only game I can recall is the Donky Kong game.

I would have guessed pong as well. I think i have seen pong as early as the mid to late 70's.
Were you referring to video games?
Another early one was tanks. Two tanks on a 2D screen hunting and shooting each other 1976-77.

well you can go back to roman times and they invented a strategic battle game similar to chess, but it was based on military formation.
