It seems the upper management in corporate America and the Government is more interested in in lining their pockets than taking care of the people who are doing all the work.

Thats the way of the world I'm afraid. Best advise, keep enough in the bank to survive for at least 6 months, take every opportunity to educate and train yourself, diversify your training, and never stop looking for work.

Over the last 20+ years - I have come to the sad realization that no matter how hard I work, and how much effort I put in for the benefit of the company - I am still replaceable.

The only reason I still go to work daily and give it 110% is this old-fashioned little concept called a 'work ethic'. I can feel good about myself - because at the end of the day - no matter who I work for - I earned my pay.

With an attitude like that - I can get another job quickly, should it happen that I became unemployed today.

Too much of privitasation has entered an era of cut-throat competition. Smaller cos., could not survive the onslaught and the definition of smaller cos., is going on changing, as merger and amalgamation is the order of the day. Naturallly, these lead the corporate giants to think of controlling a larger share of the market and consolidating rather than other matters including staff welfare and importance of the individual has been totally lost and there is no job security.

My friend, you have been brainwashed by the mainstream liberal media. Job security should NEVER be guaranteed for anyone. Why should someone who does a substandard job or violates company rules be allowed to keep his job just because he belongs to a union? Why should employers continue to pay workers when there is no work to be done or there isn't enough work to go around? The global market has forced American businesses to wake up and realize there is no such thing as product loyalty anymore. No one is going to by your product if someone else makes it better or cheaper (or both), and foreign companies are beating the absolute crap out of most American companies in this regard. And it doesn't help that Americans expect to be paid top dollar for their efforts. We have so many people griping about illegal immigrants in this country, but they're willing to do work that is "beneath" your average American. What does that say about us as a society? If I have to choose between swamping out toilets all day or not being able to pay my bills and feed my family, hand me the plunger...

Hello, I think this problem doesn't just happen in America. In fact, it is happening all around the world. NOBODY has job security anymore but we'll survive this period.
I am from Singapore and over here, we ALWAYS worry that we may not have a job tomorrow. I believe all this will come to pass.

There is no job security today, its hire and fire.

The top brass lining their own pockets, thats due to power and greed, humana nature and we may be guilty of those if we get there one day.

I can only say, do what you have to do, increase your pointsd to the competition or your next employer and move on.

Its a dog ieat dog world, my commitments are full under my employment contract but I am just a merc. ie I stop being silly giving my full loyalty.
