Sure, it's normal. If the practice is too busy and they don't want any new partners, or if the doc or docs are planning to retire, it's a courtesy to have their newly pregnant patients see someone who will be with them throughout their pregnancy.

If your mom used them, I bet it's retirement that is causing it. But it could also be that the doc or docs simply prefer to treat gyn problems and not deliver babies anymore.

That is kind of strange. I can see if you were a new patient, but not an existing patient? I would be tempted to call again and see if you get a different person to answer the phone and see what she says and then if the answer is the same, ask why since you have been a patient for how ever many years. It could be possible (since you said that he delivered you) that he is getting up in years and getting ready to retire and did not want to leave you high and dry when you are further along?

The obgyn might be going out of the delivering babies practice. He/She might just be doing GYN check-ups. Don't forget it is expensive to be a OB with all the insurance they have to carry because don't forget they are responsible for anything that can be traced back to the child's delivery. Write a note to the doctor asking what is going on, but address it to the DR and put on the envelope personal and confidential this way the office personnel or other staff members won't open it. Good luck!

Generally a doctor will not accept any more patients who are not established with them. Call back and make sure they understand you are a regular patient. If that doesn't work leave a message for the doctor or the office manager and discuss it with them. I don't see why they would make you change. Maybe the person on the phone was a new employee or something. Good Luck.

Makes me wonder if they have some sort of legal wrangling / mal practice suit going on that they are not new patients. That seems usually to be the case. Call your insurance company and see if they can point you to other doctors who accept your coverage in your area. Or ask your doctor for recommendations. Above all find a new doctor you are comfortable with. If you don't "connect" with them on the first visit - find another. It's very important to trust who is caring for you.

Most doctors have a set number of patients they can see or are willing to see. Most of the time it is because they want to give the best care to the patients they have. You doctor may be at that limit. Even though you have been a patient. With the work load your doctor has. He/She may be at their maximum number of pregnant patients they will handle at one time. This is often times for the good of the patient as well as the doctor.

It is very normal, the doctor is only one person and one pregnant woman can take up a LOT of his or her time. Immagine 20 or 30! Especially if the mother-to-be is hight risk. I was with all 3 of my boys and was in teh doctors 2-3 times a week and then about 2 months before delivery they were doing ultrasounds 2 a week and I was in on a daily basis. At least he is responsible enough not to take on too much.

any clinic can only have so many people they see. they mean the are not accepting any new ob patients I'm sure if you have gone there a long time they can see you 4 other things just not the pregnancy. Yes it's common that's why when you call ANY doctor you have to ask are you accepting new patients. congrats!
