plug an ethernet cable into the back of both the laptop and the PC. Right click on your hard drive on both systems and set it to be shared. You should see that drive show up on both systems providing you don't have a firewall or other software blocking the computers from seeing each other. Once you see the other computer's shared drive in the windows explorer - you can drop and drag your files between computers.

the easiest way is to connect both the computers using Ethernet. once connected, all documents and files can be transferred using file transfer application. but if u would ask me, i would rather advice you to keep the desktop as a backup computer incase your laptop is not available for using when you require or, god forbid, your laptop is damaged or infected with viruses.

You can't just copy programs over, you will have to install them onto the Laptop one by one. If you want to copy over files (documents, pictures, etc.) then just network them using a router (if you have one) or by using a Crossover Ethernet Cable...then you can just transfer the files using a network connection.

Go buy a memory stick and save your files from your PC there. Then you can download them to your laptop.
