In terms of the molecular structure?
Is it harmful for the growing baby?

I used the microwave for both my girls, and it did not appear to do them any harm? They both have children of their own now!

The only thing I have to say is - PLEASE shake the bottle and try the heat very carefully, it hardly takes a minute to warm, and the middle may be scalding the outside cold, so be very careful!!!!

Also, there are some plastics that give off carcinogenic toxins when put under constant heat in microwaves, so check out if the bottles are ok.

It's not, like a lot of people have said, going to make the milk radioactive and give off radiation!!! Well actually that's not quite true, it will give off thermal (infrared) radiation because it is hot, but that would happen however you heated it!

The only reason why you may have read that it is dangerous to heat baby milk in a microwave, is that it's very easy to overheat the milk and, as I'm sure you know, very hot milk will burn the baby's mouth and throat. Any burns to the mouth and throat can be very serious as they can cause swelling to such a proportion as to block the airway so the baby cannot breathe.

So long as you tested the temperature of the milk when it came out and, if it was too hot, cooled it appropriately, you shouldn't have any problems.

The only other danger I can think of is that you would need to check whether the bottle you heated it in was suitable for microwave use (you don't want it to melt!).

Microwaving does not change the milk in a way that would make it dangerous for your baby. But things get hotter much quicker in microwaves - that's why we use them after all! - and the heat is not as evenly spread as with conventional heating. So the milk could be warm on top but much hotter further down the bottle. So be very careful to check the temperature of all the milk before giving to baby.

You might want to have 2 sterilised bottles, one to heat in, and then decant it into the other before you feed baby so you can check its temperature.

Also be careful to use microwave-safe bottles!

Microwave ovens do not affect the molecular structure of milk. There can be hot spots in the bottle of milk, so shake it up and squirt a little on your wrist to make sure it is OK to give your baby.
Milk that has been heated to 98.6 degrees F in a microwave is no different from milk that has been heated to the same temp in a water bath.

Microwave "radiation" is NOT the "ionizing" type of "radiation". It does NOT cause mutation of cells. It only causes burns from heat.

The only real danger from heating the bottle is the possibility of "hot spots".

Don't fill the bottle totally full of milk or formula.

Heat it, then when it's done, gently roll the bottle back and forth on the counter to help stir it up without creating air bubbles that shaking it would.

This should eliminate any hot spots, but of course you'd still want to test the milk before feeding.

Im not sure its dangerous you just need to be aware that microwaves dont heat eavenly so shake it, we did it all the time when i worked in a restraunt only a few people asked for a jug of hot water most were happy with the microwave and there were no company guidelines on it

Perfectly safe, no danger whatsoever. In fact a saucepan could caramelize some of it if you let it burn and some of these side products may not be good for the baby.

Microwaves? All you have to do it check it has got to the correct temperature and is heated evenly.

I am so tired of hearing rubbish talked about "radiation". Study the science!

well, the microwave works in the principle of heat convertion that is electrical energy to heat energy and this kind of heat is not just ordinary heat to compare to that of the heat the sauce pan on top of the burner can give. The heat produced by the microwave are radiated from some coil inside the system which makes it work and it is also inside an isolated system where the radiated heat can easily get into the feeding bottle thereby some children who ain't strong enough to with stand such radiated heat get ill while the sauce pan system works in the principle of convention

I microwaved my kids' formula in the microwave. It has to be in a microwave safe container and you have to remember that some spots will be hotter than others. Make sure and shake the bottle very well and test it before you give it to the baby.

Perfectly safe. The microwaves we use have been used for a generation and if there were problems we would know by now.

The microwave pass thru the milk if they remained in the milk it wouldn't get hot.

Don't microwave plastic containers. older containers have thaltes in the plastics and the y MIGHT release thalates into the food.
