Promotion for the LHF Healthplan League (Or Northern Ford if you're a long standing fan such as me!) and relegation from Super League will cease to function as of 2008/9 as Super League is following in the footsteps of the NFL in Australia and franchising.
This means that if a team has a) the facilities, b) The finance and c) the playing and coaching hierarchy, they can apply and be granted a franchise to play in Super League....if not then it's tough luck as far as the RFL are concerned.
To me this is a bit daft as teams such as Dewsbury, Hull KR and Batley who have been knocking on Super Leagues door for years have no chance of ever competing at the highest level.
Great Britain will not suffer as long as the quota continues to become smaller. Last season a team was aloud 5 overseas players (overseas being Australians and Kiwis...KPAK or Pacific Islanders are NOT included in the quota) by 2010 that quota will be reduced significantly to either 1 or 2....i cant quite remember which one. With this system Great Britain can only prosper and one day (I hope i'm alive to see it) we will retake the ashes and tri-nations series.

Scrapping Promotion and Relegation will only work if the Clubs go to a system of Franchises, similar to what they have in American Football. This would then neccesitate a change in the way players are signed for clubs, again in the way that new players are made available in American Football. There is nothing wrong with this, however it would be a fundemental change in the game. Rugby Union toyed with the idea, however there were to many old establishment figures who had vested interests in the system as it what was and the RFU didn't have the b*lls to carry it through. Many of the Club vs. Country conflicts that now arise in Rugby Union are a direct result. With a franchise system the RFU could operate a proper national squad system, being able to call on players as and when they wanted. This is the case in theory currently, but not in practice.

Get the system right and yes scrap relegation and promotion. Brave man though who shuffs it through!

No. I'm a Widnes fan and we've had our fair share of relegation but it keeps the league interesting. Fighting to avoid the drop is a as dramatic as fighting for silverware. I know the NRL is a fantastic competition without relegation but with 3 weeks to go 3-4 teams had nothing to play for despite half the league being a place for the play-offs. In Superleague everyone still had something to play for going into the last 3 rounds. So keep relegation and keep the tension!

I think that regregation and permontion is an imparant part of rugby League it makes if feel like there is something to play for also it makes the last game when there is a battle for relegation mroe of an intresting game and i should no by been a wakefeild Wakefeild wildcats fan and its because i feel very strongly about this because I been a wildcats fan that it should able because it shouldnt matter what team you are or who your manager is. And in 2 years or so with that way thats it going promotion and relegation will be scrapped anyway so that Catalans can be keept up. NOT FAIR!!!!

It would be the beginning of the end for RL if relegation from Super League were to be adopted.
As it is the SL teams take much more than their share of money out of the game and seem to spend it on usually over the hill imports.
This leaves precious little to spend on developing the game at grass roots level. If it was such a good idea how come Soccer has not yet adopted it.
Remember, no matter how magnificent a tree, if you destroy the roots it will fall down.

What would be the point in that scrapping relegation and promotion, it would make it less exciting and a bit pointless (literally ) for the teams in the league below playing at all.

no it should not be scrapped, the great britain team will have to muddle on . if you want to make the GB team successful then you have to limit the number of foreign players at each club, its not just at super league ,its all through the leagues, there just isnt enough money spent on youth developement. If you do stop relegation then it becomes a closed shop that rapidly loses interest at least in its present form we get excitement all the way through the season .

If it meant less overpaid Aussies and Kiwis and more local talent in SuperLeague, then yes.
