my son is coming for a visit and i need a place for him to stay while i am at work. he is 5 yrs old and has started year round kindergarten in missouri. he is on his break and i have arranged to see him for 3 weeks. i live in florida and i can not seem to find a temporary place for him to play and fill his day with activities while i am at work.

i tried the YMCA and a few other day care facilities without much luck. anyone have any experience with this? or do divorced/seperated dad's typically not see their children? it makes it hard when there isnt readily a place for school age children to go for what seems like common situations for a lot of people.

thank you for any help

i dont think i want to place an ad or find someone at the local college. all those type of solutions present to far a security risk for me as a parent to take.
i do plan of taking as much time off as i can during his visit, 3 and 4 day weekends.

AHA, you have now some understanding of this huge problem in society today. You might want to try contacting the local government who licences in home child care and get a list of people. Start calling those closest to your workplace or home then sequentially farther. Visit the home and see if you think it would be appropriate.

This is indeed the hurdle that all working parent face when they are seeking quality child care. Just keep with it. Some child care facilities have slots open for "drop-ins" and you can call them that morning to see if they can take him. That would not be the best situation, as he could be somewhere different every day, quite unsettling. You could also go for a live in nanny for that time. He is in the verbal age range, and not as risky for the child.

While he is there arrange to take as much time off as you can. Maybe spread it out by taking afternoons off to be with him.

Well u can try day cares.. no need to explain its only going to be for 3 weeks.. act as if its going to be for awhile then last week, let them know u found a place closer to your work or something.. happens all the time..

OR u can possibly go to the local college.. and put up a ad for a babysitter that can watch ur child from home.. preferrably someone that is going to school to be a child care giver in some way shape or form like pre school teacher or teacher that needs to make alittle extra money for 3 weeks...

Our YMCA is accepting children but I live in Martin County. You could try to call KinderCare....they offer short term help. Or, put an ad in the paper for a nanny/caretaker. Just make sure to screen them!

are you in close contact with someone that you can trust with your child? maybe if you cant find a reliable solution, STAY HOME! maybe you need to be more with your son--here's your chance.
