Although any muscle can go into spasm, muscle cramps generally occur in three different muscle groups:
* the quadriceps (front of the thigh)
* the hamstrings (back of the thigh)
* the gastrocnemius (calves)
If a muscle cramp does occur, doing the following may help to relieve the spasm:
* gently stretch the cramped muscle - this is the quickest and easiest method of relieving a muscle cramp. By stretching the contracted muscle, the pressure on the muscle will be reduced, causing temporary relief
* apply ice that is wrapped in a soft material - this can be used along with stretching, as this will numb the area and cause an increase in circulation once the ice is removed
* gently massage the muscle
* start replacing lost fluids
* also jump out of bed or find a very cold surface to stand on, pain goes away immediately...

Don't know what kind of cramp you're talking about but I get charlie horses all the time, and have had good success with an accu-pressure point on the outer rim of my ear. If the cramp is in the left leg, I squeeze the left ear (just above the lobe), and hold it til the cramp goes away. You may have to re-position up and down the curve of your ear to find the right spot.

I thought it was increase your salt intake? Im not sure but I do have a handy tip for you. If it is in bed at night that you get it, the best thing Ive found to do (if one side of your bed is against a wall) is to quickly swivel round in your bed, press the foot of the leg thats cramping flat against the wall and push as hard as you can. It goes in about 2 seconds! Instead of lying there feeliong it build and build and then hit so bad youre gonna puke then slowly subside the way it normally does! Lie on your back and press your foot against the wall and its gone so fast! Just make sure you can get your partner out the way quickly if you do not 'sleep on the inside' lol.

My mom always swore on the fact that zinc supplements taken daily would get rid of all cramping. (That includes menstrual cramps as well as those that happen in hands and feet.)
I must admit that while I was on zinc supplements, I don't remember ever cramping (and I would remember because I was taking them for just that reason). Since I've developed Lupus, I can no longer tolerate mineral supplements (including zinc) because they make me as sick as a dog after 2 weeks of usage. And I'm back to having to deal with cramps.

I believe that if you increase your salt intake then your cramps will ease. If you do happen to get cramp the best way to get rid of it is by exerting pressure on the muscle that is cramping....

You need to take a good magnesium, calcium and potassium supplement! You most probably find that you are laking in magnesium however you need to take the other two other wise the body will not absorb the magnesium. But the same applys to the other two! The three work together and need it other to be effective! Bananas are also helpful in the short term!

Use a golf ball and press it in the area where the cramp is. The reason is that the golf ball stretchs the area. Do wall stretchs,Put your left foot a foot away from the wall and put the other foot out where its comfortable and then bend your knees ...(keep your feet flat and you will fell the stretch rite away. Then switch feet and do it again..

Decrease your salt intake, keep fluids up. If having cramps try a tea spoon of vinegar. Sounds strange huh. This is what my doctor told me to do. It worked for me. Good luck!
