I have a rival in my chorus class and in life in general. I have been able to surpass him with ease until now. Ethan is my brother best friends little brother. My brother and his friend are two years older than Ethan and me. Last school year was our freshman year. We had 3 classes both semester together. We both started advanced chorus this semester. This is when I noticed he has a lot more time to learn the pitches than I do. I am doing fairly well but he is doing great ( even though he sings through his nose....if he closed his mouth you could hear every word he says.). My question is, do you, the reader, think that my jealousy pushes me to try harder, or will it cause me to break down. I'm not sure of the answer, so freely answer.

Why not think of visualising the world's best singer to be beside you, and competing. Logical mind would laugh at this idea, but privately, within oneself, no harm in trying it out, even if for fun !
The results, with a sustained and patient trial , would be definitely miraculous, and the present problem will have no existence !

Jealousy will end up ruining you as it did King Saul (referring to the future King David). I believe you should turn things around and start to be a cheerleader for this guy. Genuinely wish the best for this person and make it known and you will come out smelling like a rose. He will begin to support you in the same way and if he does perform better, you will be in a positive light for "helping" him.

I'm not suggesting manipulation, but a desire for him to do well. Kill him with kindness and he won't know what hit him.

If you look at yourself as being a friendly competitor, you will try harder.

If you are jealous and see this guy as an enemy, you are hurting yourself and will never catch up to him.

The best solution is for the two of you to practice together and become a TEAM. The team will be much more than the sum of its parts. Think about it!

On some levels it will push you farther, which is a good thing, however on the other hand, this jealousy will ultimately lead you down a path which may have bad consequences. I guess as long as you have a handle on it it is a good thing.

Your jealousy will push you to try harder, but be yourself, remember you can't beat them all, there is always someone better than you. That why you try harder so be the one that is better him or her.

I feel that your greatest rival should be yourself if you want to go farther.
