http://www.stompsoft.com/recoverlostdata.html is very good and only costs $40. If you have something valuable like work documents or photos it is definitely worth it.

There are several free undelete programs available at download.com. One that has worked go for me is freeundelete from http://officerecovery.com

You have an advantage that because this is an external drive, you should be able to download and install the software without it overwriting the missing folder. But you might want to disconnect the drive until you have the program installed and are ready to try to recover the folder.

Good luck...

Yes there are data recovery programs. The one that I use at home is StompSoft's Recover Lost Data. This software can effectively recover deleted and/or missing data and will allow you to preview the files, pictures and documents prior to their recovery.

You may want to give RecoverMyFiles a try. I've used it and it did a great job recovering the information I needed. I am sure there are many others out there, but I haven't tried any of them. Good luck!

Were you working on the external hard drive exclusively? Didn't you work on C: and use the external HD for backup? There's a lesson here.

In any event, check this link. I'm sure you will find what you need there.
