Rats have been given bad press ever since the plague. They were accused of spreading the disease. In reality it was the fleas that carried the plague, but they used rats to move around the world. Rats used ships built by man to travel the world, so really the spread of the plague is the fault of humans. Many people think rats are dirty creatures. When someone mentions rats people often think of sewers and rubbish tips, dirt and filth. Rats are very clean animals. Most rats will immediately wash themselves after they have been handled by a human. (From a rats point of view, its humans who are dirty). Rats may invade our stores and spoil our food, but the things we eat are the same things that are edible for rats, and unlike rats, humans are very wasteful and rats (being opportunistic) take advantage of our waste. If we didn't make food stuffs so easily accessible for them, rats wouldn't be a problem.
I have two pet rats (yes, I am female). I think rats (wild or domestic) are lovely. They are very intelligent, and very adaptable. Okay I wouldn't like to have my house infested with them, but then I wouldn't like to have my house infested with dogs or cats either, even though I like these animals too.

This is not true at all. I am female and have 9 rats. My best friends have rats too. With some people its the idea of rats that they dont like not but when they actually meet them they love them.

Out of all the rat owners I know personally, only one of them is a guy. I absolutely love rats and have three but will have five very shortly. Guys can hate/dislike rats just as much and just as easily as some girls can. I'm going to go ahead and say that this is a very very untrue stereotype.

I am a female and love rats and so do many of my female friends and daughter. Gender is not what matters but information. This can be an opportunity to inform people of the characteristics of rats and make then educated rat loving people.

I love rats! I can't wait to keep them again. Most people who saay they hate rats know very little about them. Next time someone tells you that rats are dirty ask them if they always wash their hands after going to the toilet. They probably don't.

I'm a girl and I love rats but alas I'm not allowed pet ones (i don't see why the landlady is so bothered as we seem to have wild ones in the kitchen anyway-one rule for her and other for us)
Anyway I know girls that don't like rats but I also know guys who don't like them so I guess it all depends.........

Nah - i think an even mix of men and women don't like rats...mostly because of the tail although, what they don't realise is that rats' tails are lined with fine hair and so isn't as they'd expect.

No, I love rats, including wild ones. The only thing stopping me from getting them is the tiny flat I live in. They need need large accommodation!

Most rat lovers/breeders that I have known are female. I've only seen maybe 2 rat owners that were male. Everyone else was female.
And I've delt with alot of ratty people.
