Yes, the north end of the compass points north, and the south end of the compass points south, just like in the northern hemisphere.

In the northern hemisphere, the 'north' side of the beam on the compass points towards the magnetic 'north' pole. And, since the 'south' side of the beam is mechanically attached to it (in fact, they're one piece) it is forced to point sounth.
But, in the southern hemisphere, the 'south' side of the compass beam points to the magnetic 'south' pole and this causes the 'north' beam to point north.

A magnetic compass always points to the magnetic north which is actually the geographic south pole.So if u r in the southern hemisphere ur compass would point to south pole.

No. It will become vertical. its south end will be exactly down and north end will points to sky making an angle of 90 degree with tangential line passing through that point. Hope u got the answer.
