What are bank transit numbers? I live in Ontario, Canada if it makes a difference. I'd appreciate all answers tho.

I work with Insurance Software and here is the glossary definition they use for Transit Number:

Your financial institution's unique identification code used to process financial transactions through the Federal Reserve system.

Survey says.........this number identifies what financial institution you bank with! Larger banks like Wachovia, Regions, and Bank of America have more than one transit number!

The first 9 numbers on the bottom of your check. They indicate which bank you use. I don't know if Canadian Banks are different.
