Its a petty bad cut and I have hyperpigmentation (basically, if I cut myself the scar stays almost forever.) What can I do to avoid this?

Any raised scar can be microdermed down. Any discolored scar can be minimized with the use of a skin bleaching cream. If the scar is already lighter than your normal skin tone.....I guess just use some foundation to cover. You can try waxing to avoid this from happening again. It can be costly.......but it never scars.

I was in a bad accident and was left with some serious scars. I used a gel called Dermatix and was really amazed at how well it worked to flatten, soften and smooth my scars. It's transparent, self-drying and was gentle enough to use on my face. I think you might need a doctor's prescription, but you could probably inquire at your local pharmacy.

Not unless you interrupt the cut's healing process by picking the scab. Picking the scab off multiple times will cause the skin to scar. Also, using neosporin or other healing ointments will help speed up the healing process leaving you less likely to scar

If its a hypertrophic scar, try applying topical steroids from early on ..
If its only hyperpigmentation, use over-the-counter creams for scar reduction ..

there is something called MOO GOO you could try. It is for cow utters when milking but it is really good to prevent scarring. Go to your local farmers market or Farm & Fleet stores. They sell something close to it at Wal Mart called Udder Cream but it doesn't work near as good!!!!!

After the cut has healed, you might try putting Vitamin E oil over it. You can get either the little capsuls and break them over the wound, or you can get a bottle of Vitamin E and rub it over it. There are also some other products out there, but are more costly.

My friend has a little boy who has hyerpigmentation too and she uses Neosporin. She says that if she doesn't then he will have the scar for sure.
