Hello: Yes, here in the States "yard sale" is a common term. Basically it's when a household gets rid of its unwanted stuff by selling it in their front yard. These are normally held on weekends and are announced by fliers posted around the neighborhood. A "garage sale" is the same thing, but it is normally held in a garage or a driveway of a house. I live in New York City and we don't have too many yards or private garages, but we have lots of stoops, so here we have a lot of "stoop sales." Just a few weeks ago some friends from suburban Boston were visiting and they had no idea what the term "stoop sale" meant, they only knew of "garage and yard sales." Hope this helps.

A flea market is different from a garage or yard sale. People who have garage or yard sales are getting rid of used stuff. At a flea market you can find used stuff, but there are also vendors there who sell new items. We had one this past weekend in my city and there were new and used items. That is the difference. Hope it answered your question.

it is an american term i guess, i havent heard that you call the yard a garden though. I think it is an east coast term, there are also tag sales, and garage sales. A flea market is more of a market thing with permanent boothes.

Don't know what a 'boot sale' is, but a yard sale is like a flea market with only one booth to buy from, but usually has several different items.

Its an american term! Yard is what we would call a garden and its just things from your house that you dont want. saves you travelling to a car boot sale to sell it i suppose !

If the car boot sale is selling their wares out of their truck, then yes, a yard seller sells their wares out of the yards...

Yeh its mainly a US term.
Its when people sell stuff outside their house (yard - garden). Like a garage sale I would guess.

The person holding it puts all the junk they don't want out on tables in their yard and prices them and then people come and buy it.

i think it is an Americam term. Not strictly a boot sale as they have it in their own gardens.
