I'm trying to make a costume (Lion-O from Thundercats) I want to take a brown wig and dye it bright orange. The wig is long hair, and I also want it to be stiff so it stands up in the back. What could I color the wig with?

Wigs are not made of real hair unless you paid over 250$ for it. If it is a wig that you just picked up somewhere you cannot chemically alter it. It will just burn and singe the hair off and you will be left with a matted ball of plastic. THe hair they use is synthetic and make from various plastics. In order to lift a brown to a bright orange you would have to almost bleach the hair to strip it of its natural colors then color it the orange. And you cannot purchase bleaching agents for hair at any local store. Just go out and buy an orange wig. OR you can buy that spray hair color and spray it till it gets the orange color you want

I was Peggy Bundy for a costume once and I couldn't find a red wig that looked right, so I bought a black wig and used bright red hair spray. It turned out great, but I ended up with red hands from touching it. You should be able to find orange hair spray where costumes are sold, but if you really want to make it stand up I would use regular spray paint. Either way, apply it in light layers and let it dry in between for the best color and flexibility.

Good luck, that's a great costume idea...just hope you look good in that blue leotard of his!!

I used spray paint one year to dye a white clown wig brown for a different costume..... Just make sure you do it early enough that it will be totally dry. This should also make the long hair stiff, but you could always add some hair spray too.

Hair dye wont work unless the wig is real hair. You can try that spray on stuff they sell around Halloween.

if you have blonde hair this will naturally get bleached by the particular sun in the summer. There has been this guy in my class who else had golden blonde hair that had been a medium brown near the bottom. When he came back to college after summer vacation, it was nearly platinum blonde!

The reason why is everyone with blond, why can't you just have jet black tresses with some blonde or blonde tresses with some jet black hair. Right now you don't have to choose.

If its human hair it can be lightened, but if not then use a spray color for hair.
