A necessary evil. And they seem worst when there's a person in charge who insists on knowing the details at all levels and influencing all the decisions. That virtually guarantees that nothing gets done until that boss decides how to do it, thus slowing the whole process.

I'm not particularly interested in personally running the State department, the department of motor vehicles, the Red Cross, or any other large organization. So someone else has to do it. Given the limitations of just adequate communication, the tendency of human nature to either ignore, misinterpret, or just be perverse, it's understandable that it will take time for anything to get done. So I do what I can myself, and try to plan ahead when I know I have to deal with a bureaucracy.

Bureaucracy in general is pretty ridiculous. You make a "department" and they end up making sub-departments and so on and so on. After a while there is so much paperwork that they need to charge fees for services JUST TO PAY FOR ALL THE PAPERWORK.
You have to get permits for this and that and everything else. We have to do all this stuff for things that *should* be our rights since we live in a nation that *supposedly* believes in freedom (I'm referring to the US).

I absolutely hate bureaucracies and it doesn't help that everyone wants to move up in the bureaucracy so everyone tries to help out their buddies (corruption) and so on. Everyone's doing everyone else favors and no one is ever given much incentive to actually put in some good work.

BTW NewCatholic the Libertarian party believes in a small government. For those of you who believe in small government, check out www.lp.org

In the case of the government I guess it's necessary to keep order on an administrative level. But it has the potential to become a huge inconvenience and I guess that's why the majority of people hate it.

A necessary evil. Actually, most bureaucrats that I have encountered try to be useful and helpful to their constituents. But the rules thay they are trying to enforce often make that difficult to do.

The larger the government, the more there is and the more of our money they waste.

To bad we don't have any major political party that REALLY wants smaller Government.

Peace!
