Sleepy Time Tea is a good boxed tea set that can help ease sleep. Chamomile tea is also good for this purpose. Any tea that combines chamomile, peppermint, hops, catnip, yarrow, and skullcap will be very effective at quieting the mind and allowing for a restful sleep.
Using lavender to scent your sheets and sleeping attire will also help to relax you. What do you do before you sleep? If you do not have an "un-wind" time before you go to bed, you run the risk of over-thinking when you lie down for bed. Try giving yourself some time to relax before you try to go to bed. Do not read in bed, or watch tv in bed because both can stimulate your thought processes too much and keep you from sleeping restfully.
Sitting quietly with a nice cup of hot tea while listening to soft, quiet music can work wonders on your mind and allow you to sleep.
Try it.

Couple of options Nytol is very good, but it leaves you feeling totally f*cked the next day. A few years ago, I got something from a Chinese herbalist on the high street. That worked, but it gave me really freaky dreams so had to give up These days, I have a hot toddy (thats the drink, not the rent boy), a hot bath, watch The Tudors on DVD, then get into bed with clean sheets and day dream that Jonathan Rhys Meyers has come round for dinner. W*nk myself stupid and then drift off. Yes I know that sounds a bit bizarre or extreme, but it actually works for me. More importantly though is to figure out why you aren't sleeping and do something about it. Don't mask the problem, get to the root cause.

You might try valerian, kava kava, 5-htp or meletonin to fall asleep. Seretonin is made from Tryptophan and Vitamin B6 and foods rich in Carbohydrates will boost levels. Seretonin is the neurotransmitter that is responsible for Stage 4 sleep ( after REM) the really deep sleep after Dreaming.
Try eating something carbohydrates just before bed...whole grain breads and pastas, whole grain cereal... I usually take the 5-htp and one meletonin tablet... then eat a bowl of cereal.
Sleep like a baby most nights.
If it's stress that's keeping you up then I suggest taking B vitamins... all of them. It will take awhile for your body to get the levels back to normal if your pretty low, though.

"Calms" by Highland brand, sold at Wal-mart or any vitamin/nutrition store, very inexpensive. All natural, non-addictive, safe enough to give to children. Works as a great sleep aid, helps with nervous tension, and PMS symptoms. Have used them, as needed, for years. Still my favorite! Good Luck and sweet dreams!
P.S. I too have a racing mind!
