What's going on with my man Smoke? He has been doing fairly poorly, I hate to say, as of late. He's had some good finishes too, but he's had a terrible season compared to how he usually does. He's always in the middle of the pack and finishes there, too. He spun out at Dover...which he doesn't usually do (he never spins out!) Even Kasey Kahne was surprised he did that. Poor Tony...is he not focused anymore?

To the last person who answered...oh, come on! Did I SAY that I no longer support Tony? No. I didn't. It's only a question....not some live or die statement that will ruin and curse me because I said such a thing!

It's fairly common for a defending champion to have an off year--look at Kurt Busch last year. I think this not making the Chase has thrown him for a loop, and he'll need to get over that. Also, the Gibbs team used to concentrate their resources on him; he's now having to share with Denny Hamlin, who *is* in the Chase.

I hope he wins some races, too. He probably will in another week or two. Autumn's usually a good time for him.

I would offer myself as Smoke's stress relief toy, but my beloved objects. ;-)

IMO, Tony's just having a off season. Every driver has a season where things just don't go right and for whatever reason this year is Tony's year.

As the defending champion Tony has so much work to do outside of the racing that he may just be tired.

He was hurt around the middle of the season. It is just taking him a little while to recover. Everyone has had a bad year at one time or another. Back in 1992 Earnhardt didn't finish in the top ten in points, people were saying he'd lost it and he should retire. He came back and won championships in 1993 and 1994. Stewart will be fine.

There seems to be a communication problem with the team. When Tony is doing good the team is up and every thing is fine. But when there is a poor week the team gets down and it seems they take 2 or 3 weeks to get back in the swing of things.

okay, so he isn't in the top ten and he spun out. but does being 11th in point qualify for an off season or reason to be concerned. give me a ever lovin' break. i will agree with just about every other tony fan that it sucks not to have him in the chase. but to start wondering if he isn't in the right fame of mind seems a bit extreme.
and as good as tony is and as much dirt track experience he has he is going to spin out. somethings are beyond his control. the car will be loose, the track will be slick. it is just a fact. he couldn't save it!
don't abandon ship now! either you support him through it all or you don't.
my gosh!!!
