Doesn't that just exemplify what the rich care about, sports! Big money will always be given to have the best in sports but never enough to keep people out of poverty.
I don't hate sports, just noticing the imbalance here.
What are others thinking about this? Do we need to change our priorities?

This country is in a sad state. It is unbelievable that they can get the Super dome together, they can have Mardi Gras, however, people are living in trailers and displaced outside of their home states. My son went in the summer for a missionary trip to New Orleans he said it was a horrible site. And the rumor is they do not plan on rebuilding the 9th ward. That was the most improvised area of New Orleans. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Very sad, a reality of our country. I do not understand how people can go there and have a good time with the devastation going on right around them, I guess it is easy to close your eyes to things that do not directly affect you. For most! It would be nice if they were planning on using the proceeds for the games to subsidize the cost of repairs to homes. The people of New Orleans are a unique culture of people, they have lived there for generations. Some of the nicest people i have ever encountered in my life. God Bless them all and we need to continue to hold them in prayer. And do what we can by donating time, materials, money, etc to agencies such as the Red Cross.

Sure we need to change our priorities - but whose priorities are they? If the rich paid for the Superdome, no problem, but it's your tax dollars that are paying...because a lot of people would rather watch a bunch of musclebound morons chase a piece of inflated pigskin around a field than provide universal health care. Yes, I'm over simplifying, but it's true our priorities are in the wrong place. Otherwise teachers would be paid millions and sports figures would be striking for a living wage.

There is no money in helping the homeless, poor, and starving people. Sad but true. If someone could get a tax break or tons of media coverage, help would be on the way. It is not an attractive cause. I sure did not watch the game last night knowing there were too many houses not rebuilt. This is not good.

Because people by nature are selfish, and want to be entertained. Basically the way it works is out of sight, out of mind. If people got serious about helping other people the way Christ taught the world would be a different place. I'm not against sports or concerts or other comforts, I just can't justify paying $800 for tickets when there are desperate people in need elsewhere.

i will completely relate to the type you're feeling, and that i too have had a coarse street back to faith. What I unquestionably have found out is that it is not God who's in charge for those ravenous infants - that is human beings, all individuals. and because God gave us unfastened will, that is not for him to easily "save" all those infants, as there is a few significant reason - or lesson for us - of their suffering. the real unhappy element is that there is better than sufficient foodstuff and clean water on the earth to feed and quench all human beings. yet, becuase we are so divided, some could go through so as that others can prosper. that is critical remember that there are issues a good distance previous our information, and that i'm effective that God has a plan that none individuals coud ever wish to understand. yet i'm effective that plan relies on what's sturdy for the non secular progression of the whole species, and not in easy terms the suffering of a few segments of the species. certainly, it become evidenced interior the life of Christ, Ghandi, the Dali Llama, and different non secular specialists that there is an extremely severe place for suffering, and with out it, real non secular develop won't be achievable. proceed to choose no longer in easy terms for people who're visibly suffering, yet for people who've the flexibility to end that suffering yet do no longer with the aid of fact of their greed. we could shop the religion, no count what. a minimum of that's what I tell myself. with the aid of fact while wish is lost, so is all else. Many reward to you : )

Because that is in the U.S. and cost a few million dollars (a quick fix which also has economic benefits) while in countries where people are starving it is usually due to internal conflict (civil war, dictatorships, etc...) which are beyond our control. Even when we send money or food, there is no guarantee that it will be used properly because most of those governments are corrupt and will hoard the funds or misuse them.

Taking that a step farther, why can we revitalize the Superdome but we cannot get homes in New Orleans rebuilt.

Sell your computer and give the money to charities that feed the world's starving if you really care. Otherwise, it's their money and their choice what to do with it.
