You have pressed the "Insert" Key.
It toggles between typing in between letters or over them.
Press it again and everything will go back to normal.
By the way, Word has an indication of whether it is pressed or not: If at the bottom of the window you can see "OVR" that insert is in the over mode.

Of course, we are talking about using Microsoft Word or other word processor.
Hit the INSERT key again, so you are NOT in Overtype mode.
When you hit the INSERT key again and again, you should see the letters OVR on the status bar (at the bottom of the window) highlight, then grayout.
Good luck

Not only press the INSERT button, but in the future, make sure that 'OVR' is dimmed on the lower right-hand corner of your window if you're using Word, that way it won't happen again!

Insert key might be a problem or i think that you might have turned on the sticky keys, if that is the case then turn them off by going to the control panel & then to keyboard n disable the sticky keys.
