Most of Dell inkjet printers are made by Lexmark. I really cannot tell you what ink cartridge will fit which printer. However, you can try actually compare the look of the printers from Lexmark and Dell. They are pretty much look alike. Just use the cartridges accordingly.
However, the ink cartridges are keyed differently between Dell ink cartridges and the Lexmark ink cartridges. You will not be able to use Lexmark ink cartridges just purchased from the store with doing any modification.
There is a trick. I am not recommend you to do that without doing more research. As far as I know, you can buy Lexmark cartridges and the cut of the keyed stuff on the top of the ink cartridge, so the ink cartridge will fit in the cartridge slot. Otherwise, the lid will not even close.

on the greater recent fashions you could not. although the cartridge and printer are synthetic by potential of lexmark. Dell cartridges have been rather keyed as Dell cartridges. they have one greater digital touch on the rear which will ward off any bypass over. on the older fashions (greater effective than approximately 18 months previous), you purely would desire to alter the lexmark and dell lids or ruin of a small fin interior the cartridge lock on the printer.

Lexmark makes Dell printers. Dell then takes them and puts their logo on them. You can compare some of their models and see how similar they are. The cartridges are also exactly the same, but unfortunately you can't use cartridges made for other machines. You have to either buy new Dell cartridges, refill your existing ones or buy remanufactured ones made specifically for your model. Even though Lexmark cartridges will physically fit, your printer will not recognized them.

I'll agree with you, the price Dell charges is a little steep, and its more than a little inconvenient to order 'on line' and wait. Check with Staples, some stores carry them, or buy the ink in bulk and re-load the cartridges yourself (do it in the sink first time)
