Check that the thermostat on your boiler itself is turned up to an acceptable temperature. My 23 month old daughter turned mine right down and I had to have the gas man out to 'fix' it. Red faced me.

The Potterton Performa 24 is a combination boiler. Under the flap on the front there are some buttons, one of them has a little picture of the sun next to it this is the summer/winter switch, when the button is on the summer setting this is a 'hot water only' setting. Press the button and make sure your timeclock is on and your room thermostat (if you have one) is turned up. If none of this works, the diverter valve in the boiler is faulty.

I had this happen once. The furnace was working like mad but no heat was coming out. The service guy said it was air in the pipes. He purged the air and everything has been fine since. It depends on your setup but typically you want to find a purge valve at the highest spot in the system and bleed the air out while the system is off. With mine, if the circulator pump is running it will actually draw air in when you open the valve. If it is air, you may want to consider checking the hi-vent valve which is supposed to remove air automatically. It may have corroded up. Good Luck

I have a very old boiler that has a lever in the airing cupboard. One side says hot water and the other side says water and heating. You have to alter the lever for whichever setting you need. Mind you- I found a service sticker on my boiler with the date 14/01/1977 so it's pretty old!!

1 check ur thermostat
2 check ur rads dont need bleeding, If your rads are hot at the bottom and cold at the top.
3 when turnin on heater, place ur hand on pump to feel if it is working. u can bash it with a screw driver, just to loosen any blockage, or gentle undo the larger screw a little, to bleed any air that may be trapped in there.
4 check leaver on ur valve . to see if it moves as u switch from hot water only to heater.
the valve is the sqaure silver box, with a small silver leaver , that moves as u switch from hot water only to hot water and heater,, if its hotwater only it will be foward, if u have hot water and heating, it will move to the middle, allowing the water to flow to both pipes.. most time, it is this that is the problem. it could be that dirt hsa blocked it, so it will need to be cleaned, and maybe ur system will needed to be flushed.. if the plumber takes it apart , look for urself to see if its got lots of gunge in it, other wise the plumber might try to sting u for flushing ur system, when it doesnt need to be .

Your water pump is probably 'furred up' with Lime Scale. You therefore probably need a new water pump. To avoid this happening in future necessitating costly repairs/replacement - might I suggest that irriespective of the weather - during the summer you run the heating system for approximately 1 hour per week - this will lessen the amount of sediment settling in the water system at its lowest point - the water pump. and clogging it.

There is a pipe inside the hot water heater which takes the hot water from the opposite side from where the cold water comes in. That pipe is probably broken inside your hot water heater. This happens when they get old. If you heater is over 10 years old, best bet is to buy a new one.

If your place is newer, you may have different circulation pumps for different zones. Be sure they are all working.
Also, check the rads by feeling down at the bottom for heat. If the bottom is hot but the top is cold, you have air in the rads and you need to bleed it off. All rads have bleed screws on the ends (older ones) or on the backs (newer ones). You need a radiator key to fit the bleed screw. get one at your local DIY or plumber supply.

could be the pump, the thing that pumps the water around through the radiators. Shop around it is not cheap and prices vary considerably!
