My fiance is Jamaican (I am British) and he has indefinite leave in Britain. I have been offered a research job in Tanzania and we both want to live there during this time. It does not appear that Jamaicans need a visa to enter Tanzania (only an entry stamp) so will he need a residence permit to stay in Tanzania for a year?

If a visa/permit is needed, how would we go about this?

The reason why Jamaicans in theory do not need a visa is because Jamaica is part of the Commonwealth and are therefore exempt from requiring visas to Tanzania. What is not clear is if this also applies to residency or stay for more than 3 months. The Tanzanian High Commission in London are unhelpful and have not provided us with a clear answer to our question.
