It is also possible your new starter is no good. It happens. But here's the tricky part: did this same problem happen before you changed the starter, or only after? Have you checked that all the wires are hooked up to the correct places?
Also, there is almost no possibility that your problem is the alternator...

Check the fuses. Always easy to forget those. Also check the earthing strap (woven metal strap) which connects the engine to the chassis is not broken as this would break the circuit of the starter. The starter motor uses alot of battery power, so make sure the battery is well charged. Double check the wiring on the starter for loose connections as well.

There's a fuse (CRANK FUSE) Check that first....If its a manual trans. there's not only a neutral safety switch but also a clutch switch..its rare but make sure the vehicle is in park or neutral. you can use a paper clip to jump the plug on both of these switches just , unplug it and insert the paper clip in the plug, TRY TO START.. Can you jump it at the starter solenoid ? Battery + to start terminal on the solenoid ? sometimes you can use a screw driver to do this...Also Make sure the start wire is on the correct terminal... GOOD LUCK

It could be your neutral safety switch. Both automatics and standards have them.
Does your car have an antitheft system? Maybe your key is defective.
Is the solenoid wire on the starter on the correct terminal?
Is there power at the starter and solenoid withthe key on?

Ignition switch or anti-theft. You may also want to make sure the gear selector is in Park or Neutral. This happens a lot!
